What is electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the ONLY form of hair removal recognized as PERMANENT by Health Canada and the F.D.A.

Electrolysis is a method of removing individual hairs from the face or body. It is accomplished through the use of an electric current applied directly to the hair follicle through a single-use filament. The goal of electrolysis is to permanently destroy the growth center of the hair with the intent of preventing future hair growth.

Electrolysis is considered a permanent hair removal method, but it may require multiple sessions for optimal results. The success of the procedure can depend on factors such as the skill of the practitioner, the hair type, and the specific characteristics of the individual undergoing the treatment.

Types of Electrolysis:
There are different methods of electrolysis, including galvanic, thermolysis, and blend. Each has its own specific technique and mechanism for hair removal.

  • Galvanic Electrolysis: This method uses a direct current to create a chemical reaction that destroys the hair follicle.
  • Thermolysis (or Diathermy): This method uses alternating current to generate heat, which destroys the hair follicle.
  • Blend Method: This is a combination of both galvanic and thermolysis methods.

Understanding Hair Growth

The best time to treat hair is in the anagen stage of growth, when it begins to emerge out of the follicle.
It takes 8-12 weeks (2-3 months) for hair to produce and grow to the surface, if you see hairs before this, it’s a new hair, not the hair removed. Distorted follicles require multiple treatments.
